EASY & FAST TRANSPORTATION
Everyone knows that trains in Japan are by far the easiest, fastest and most reliable mode of transportation around the big cities. However, most hiking trailheads are in remote areas with no train access, so a car is usually required. We combine the best of both worlds: We provide simple and clear instructions on which train to take from your hotel (probably in Tokyo or Kyoto), then pick you up at the most convenient train station and drive you to the trailhead. The same simple process applies for the return journey. You can simply leave your luggage in our car during the hike.

OPTIONAL, PERSONALIZED, HIKE-SPECIFIC TRAINING PLAN
Although our Hike Consultation ensures the hike matches your current fitness, we also offer a personalized, hike-specific training plan—for two simple reasons.
First, every hike is different. Terrain, distance, elevation gain, and altitude all place very specific demands on the body. Training that is tailored to the exact hike you’ll be doing can dramatically improve how strong, comfortable, and confident you feel on the day.
Second, many people find real satisfaction in training with a clear goal. Arriving fit, moving efficiently, and reaching the summit feeling strong (while others are out of breath) is incredibly rewarding. As a bonus, you'll increase your overall fitness and are likely to loose a few pounds along the way.
We’ve guided thousands of hikers and know exactly what level of fitness each type of hike requires. Your training plan is tailored to your schedule, experience, and preferences, making it realistic and easy to follow.
This training program is completely optional, but it adds significant value to your hiking experience—and is included at no extra cost.
Most people overlook the first and most important step of any hike: finding a hike that actually matches your interests and abilities.
We will do this for you by asking the right questions. Fill out our survey below and we will get back to you with your perfect hike within 24 hours. It's for free, takes 2 minutes and is non-binding.

MOUNTAIN HUT, MEALS & TRAIL FOOD
Knowing which mountain huts are good and how to book them in Japan is a struggle. This is why we include hut reservations and costs in every trip. Japanese mountain huts are intentionally minimalist, with shared sleeping areas, no showers, and a focus on rest, warmth, and the mountain experience. All hut stays include freshly prepared breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner—offering a taste of traditional Japanese cuisine while significantly reducing the weight of your pack.

We also offer a selection of high-quality hiking snacks (e.g. cliff bars) and electrolytes for you to chose from before we start the hike. We decided to do this because finding proper trail nutrition in Japan is difficult, and insufficient fueling and hydration can significantly impact energy levels and performance while hiking.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION OF HIKE INTO YOUR TRAEL ITENARY
Most people are unaware of how inefficient their travel itineraries can become once they step off the standard Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka route—and we don’t blame them. Planning how to smoothly integrate a destination outside Japan’s three major cities is surprisingly difficult.
When you book, we’ll ask for your main travel stops and then suggest the most efficient way to seamlessly fit this hike into your overall Japan itinerary—saving you significant time and money, two valuable resources especially when you’re on holiday.

ONLY PRIVATE GROUPS UP TO 6 PEOPLE
We only offer private trips so that we can tailor the hiking trip exactly to your interests and abilities.
We also limit the number of people per group to six for two reasons. One, having too many hikers in one group makes the trail feel crowded, which takes away from the quiet, peaceful experience a hike should offer. And two, by limiting the number of hikers, your guide can give everyone enough personal attention which is crucial for the success and safety of the group.
